Adopt A Highway Cleanup

10 AM, Saturday, May 4th

Wild River Auduboners are sponsoring yet another public participation event, this time we will be cleaning along County Highway 37, just north of Shafer, on May 4. We will meet at the intersection of 310th St. and Redwing Ave. at 10:00 am. Bags and safety vests will be provided. Bring gloves, sturdy shoes, bug repellant and water. The weather will be perfect. Come join us; you need not be an Audubon member.

Birding for Beginners

Ki Chi Saga County Park, 29101 Glader Blvd, Lindstrom

Join Sue Leaf, local author and naturalist, on Saturday, May 4th at 8am in Ki Chi Saga County Park for a Wild River Audubon sponsored bird walk. This outing, designed for birdwatching beginners, is a casual walk in search of warblers and other spring migrants. Meet at the Ki Chi Saga County Park picnic shelter – address is 29101 Glader Blvd, Lindstrom. This is a free event open to  the public.

DeClercq Memorial Bird Walk

7:30 am, Saturday, May 18th

Wild River State Park, 39797 Park Trail, Center City

Wild River Audubon has conducted this bird walk, named in honor of Dayle and Bonnie DeClercq, for decades. Join leader, Dr. Michelle Terrell, for a casual walk in search of warblers and other spring migrants. Birders of all levels are welcome! Michelle is former President of the Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union, our WRA vice-president, and a lifelong Minnesota birder who has presented a bird photography course at regional events. This walk is a favorite loop because it passes through a variety of habitats. Meet at the Wild River State Park Parking Lot near Amik’s Pond and the boat launch (45.523242, -92.731727) at 7:30am. Approximately one-mile loop walk on mowed and uneven packed-earth trails. Equipment to bring:  binoculars and weather appropriate outer wear. This is a free event open to  the public.

Midsummer Bird Walk

Allemansratt Park, Olinda Trail parking lot, Lindstrom

Enjoy a summer evening bird walk through the meadows and woodlands of Allemansratt Park’s Anderson Peninsula.  The park’s varied habitat attracts a range of bird species and hosts a variety of plants and wildlife.  New and experienced birders welcome!  Meet at the parking area on the east side of Olinda Trail (45.3997085, -92.8358409).  Approximately one-mile loop walk on mowed and uneven packed-earth trails. Equipment to bring:  Binoculars, water, and insect protection. This is a free event open to  the public.

On Tuesday, April 20th, naturalist Dave Crawford described the goals, construction, and benefits of the home that he and his wife built on Lexington Parkway in St. Paul. 3/23/21 – Jonathan C. Slaght: “Owls of the Eastern Ice”
On Tuesday, March 23rd, author & biologist, Jonathan C. Slaght, told the story that led to his book, “Owls of the Eastern Ice: A Quest to Find and Save the World’s Largest Owl”. In the book, Slaght describes his five-year quest to track down the mysterious Blakiston’s Fish Owl in the forbidding reaches of eastern Russia. With his Russian collaborators, the author encountered frozen rivers, extreme weather, tigers, bears and other hazards on the mission to protect the owls from threats posed by logging companies and poachers. 11/19/20 – J Drake Hamilton: “Climate Action the Most Important Steps We Should Take”
On Thursday, November 19th, Wild River Audubon hosted J Drake Hamilton of Fresh Energy in an online Zoom meeting. The topic was “Climate Action — the Most Important Steps We Should Take”. Ms Hamilton inspired and encouraged, sharing a positive message about how the economic advantages of clean energy are changing the game and ways we can help keep the momentum going. 10/13/20 – Jenniver Vieth: “Saw-whet Owls”
On Tuesday, October 13th, Wild River Audubon hosted its first online Zoom meeting. The topic was “Saw-whet Owls of the St. Croix Valley” presented by Jennifer Vieth, Executive Director of the Carpenter Nature Center. A recording is available on YouTube here: Saw-whet Owl Talk.
